The Dark Island Trust was set up in 1999 with a view to promoting traditional music and dance in the Aberdeen area. We provide opportunities for musicians to perform in public while at the same time raising money for charities.
The trust began by forming a Cèilidh Band,‘Dark Island’, which gave developing musicians the chance to play regularly for cèilidhs.
We perform at both private parties and public events in Aberdeen and Deeside and all profits from performing are donated annually to local and national charities nominated by the band members. Over £100k has been donated to charity over the years.
Charities which have received donations from the trust in the past include: Alzheimer Scotland; Mental Health Aberdeen; LEAD Scotland; Cystic Fibrosis Trust; Friends of the Anchor Unit; Save the Children; Aberdeen Foyer.
